THE ARBITRATION COURT
CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION. GREYMOUTH, June 4. in the Arbitration Court, Peter Thompson, a coalminer, sued the Brunner Collieries in respect of an eye injury in July last, and was awarded £283 19s Id, in addition to £4l 12s previously paid in weekly compensation. _Judgment was entered by consent for £560 4s Bd, in addition to weekly compensation totalling £129 4s sd, in the case Harold Jones v. Davies Bros. The plaintiff being a minor, the amount was ordered to be paid to the Public Trustee. The settlement of several other cases wa« announced, and the remainder of the day was occupied with a death claim, Greaney v. the King. The widow of David Greaney, a blacksmith, who had been employed at the State mine. Rewanui, prayed for judgment for £lOOO. alleging that her husband had died from blood poisoning, which bad been induced by a sprained ankle when loading a hoist from the mine in October last. Mr Justice Frazer intimated that the case was so extraordinary that the court would refer the evidence to a medical referee, and would give judgment later.
