BREWERY LICENSE

MINISTER REFUSES PERMIT AUCKLAND, June 1. Judgment dismissing an application for a mandamus to compel the Minister of Customs to grant a license for a distillery at Mahia, IG* miles' south of Auckland, was given to-day by Mr Justice Blair. His Honor- recalled that there was a distillery in Dunedin prior to 1874, an 1 another in Auckland. Both had been closed upon payment of £20,000 and £7500 respectively, and none had since commenced. The Minister in this case refused to grant a license before the plant was erected, and his Honor said he could not interpret the Act as requiring the Minister to give his approval now.
