Compared with Norway, New Zealand has greater advantages, so far as winter sports are concerned,” says Guide Brustad, of the Hermitage. “ There is not the forest to be cleared, nor does the temperature sink so low that the danger of frost-bite becomes serious. Long trips on which it is necessary to camp in the snow are not yet very popular, but in time, when we get proper equipment, like that used on polar expeditions, they will become more frequent.”
