DUNEDIN J.C. MEETING.First Day—Wednesday, June 3. The Dunedin Jockey Club’s winter meeting was opened in highly favourable conditions. The weather was beautifully fine and summer-like, and the track, although a bit holding, provided excellent going for .the time of the year. With an attractive card and such favourable weather it was not surprising- to find a large; attendance at Wingatui. -The card nrovided some very interesting spbrt, and one or two surprises were effected during the day. The totaiisator handled £20,728, compared with £28,352 10s on June 3 last year. The meeting was continued at Wingatui: The morning was rather uninvl tmg, and only the Spartan sportsmen who braved the elements found that the weather, although cold, did not prove so bad as might have been anticipated. The track provided fairly sound going, and the card produced some excellent finishes that should help to arouse interest in the nnal day s racing. The totaiisator handled £8839 for the day, compared with £14,955 10s on the eoiresponding day last year, the comparison being made with the “ off ” days in each case.

The final day of the meeting was ushered in with rather unpromising weather, but once ou the course a welcome sun occasionally in evidence helped towards the enjoyment of the snort. There was a fair attendance, but below what might have been expected. The going was softer than on the preceding days of the meeting, and did not help the chance of the top-weights. The totalisator handled £12,221, compared with £17,556 on the Saturday of last year's meeting. The total for the meeting was £41,788. compared with £60,864 last year.
