Gladys Cann, aged 18 years, of Southwark, Sydney, -who failed to reduce her weight of 13 stone by hard work at Alice Springs, has resolved to walk to Melbourne with Sybil Emsley, who is also 18, but weighs only Bst 121 b. Each proposes to dress in male clothes, and to push a small handcart containing their belongings. They will seek employment in Melbourne, and are determined to refuse all offers of lifts on the way. They expect to take six weeks in completing the journey.
