DUNEDIN CHORAL SOCIETY.

The Dunedin Choral Society has on frequent occasions introduced Sir Edyvard Elgar’s choral works to the Dunedin musical public. It has given “ King Olaf," “The Black Knight," “August, 1914,” “To the Fallen," “To Women,” and “ The Banner of Saint George.” On June 23 the society will give another by the same eminent British composer. This is entitled “ Caractacus.” It was specially yvritten for the Leeds Musical Festival of 1398, and yvas dedicated by special permission to Queen Victoria. It has been' given only once previously in Neyv Zealand, and forms the programme of the Wellington Society on June G. It is the story of the early Britons under Caractacus, and their conflicts yvith the Romans. The characters are: Caractacus, Eigen, Orbin, The Arch Druid, and Claudius. There is fine scope for soloists and chorus. Among the opportunities for the latter, mention may be made of “Watchmen, Alert!” “Lord of Dread," “Come, Beneath Our Woodland Bowers,” “We Were Gathered by the River,” “O, My Warriors,” and “ The Clang of Arms is Over.”
