BEAUTY FOR BLONDES.
One of the most important duties the blonde has to perform if she is to make the most of her looks is the care of her hair. She must take every precaution to keep her hair light in colour, for it is one of her greatest assets. It is her hair that distinguishes her from various other types of beauty. Fair hair must be shampooed each week. Just before the shampoo the scalp should be rubbed with some herbal oil so as to counteract the drying tendency of frequent shampooing. In the washing water put a little lemon juice or borax, as this helps to keep the colour in the hair. The water should be warm, never - too hot. Rinse thoroughly and dry on a soft, warm towel. If sunlight can help the drying process, so much the better. Fair hair should not be allowed to grow oily, and neither must it become too dry. Frequent brushing will help to keep circulation going well, and massage with the finger tips dipped in bay rum will ward off a too oily or too dry condition of the scalp. Never must hot curling irons be used on fair hair except when in the hands of the professional. Curling irons A’cry soon make fair hair choppy and coarse. The blonde’s complexion is another momentous question. It must be kept clear and smooth as possible, and a good astringent lotion used to check any tendency to oiliness. A vanishing cream should be used as a foundation for powder, and a protection against sun and wind. This must be worked smoothly
and meticulously into the skin. Then apply powder liberally, leave for a minute or two, and then smooth over with a piece of chamois. With this treatment the skin will look clear and velvety. All the blonde’s best points should be expressed in her clothes. Colours must be chosen carefully, otherwise they will work against her own colouring. As a rule, red should be avoided, because somehow it seems to make her hair of no consequence by contrast. Blondes with blue eyes should wear blue, for obvious reasons. The colouring of the eyes, skin, and hair are accentuated or faded by the colours she wears. Lavender and green are good colours for blondes because they are derivations of blue and provide a most attractive contrast against light hair.—An
