OAMARU TROTTING CLUB. At a meeting of the Oamaru Trotting Club, Mr M. J. Hannon presided over a good attendance of members. A statement of receipts and expenses in connection with the recent winter meeting disclosed a small profit, which, considering the circumstances, was very satisfactory. It was decided to apply for the following dates for next season’s racing:—October 26 (Labour Day), May 16, 1932. OTAGO HUNT CLUB. MEET AT SEAVIEW. Followers of the Otago Hunt Club met at the Waterloo Hotel, Forbury corner, at 2.15 p.m. on Saturday. The throw off was near Mr T. Patterson’s homestead, and the trail led through the properties of Messrs Bowen Bros., R. Wilson, and R. Sim. On account of the race meeting next week there were no Wingatui horses taking part in the run, but nevertheless the following was good. A high wind was blowing, and this made jumping rather unpleasant, but helped to dry up the ground. The hounds set off at a good pace until the road double was reached. It was here that a number of spectators hindered the horses, and in one case an accident was narrowly averted. Entering Mr Sims’ farm, the hounds put up a hare, which ran to the cliffs, where it was lost. Returning to the trail, which now led towards the St. Clair golf links, the run of three miles over some 17 fences finished at the road. Owing to the race meeting there will be no hunt on Saturday next. Those who qualified were: —The master (Mr J. N. Murdoch) on Kismet, the deputy master (Mr H. S. Jones) on Ngawere, the huntsman (Mr F. Kydd) on Stately, the whip (Mr D. G. Binnie) on Starset, Miss Edna Greenslade on MacGregor, Miss Isobel Reid on Dandy, Miss Zoe Rutherford on Hillman, Messrs L. Mowat on Spanker, R. Sleigh on Beau Sabreur, R. Greenslade on Mount Mavora, B. Hastie on Mystery, J. Brunton on Heather Bloom, D. Abernethy on Nugget, N. Robertson on Kiwi, H. Abe.rnethy on Rose Thorne, R. M’Callum on Yellowbird, D. White on Baldy, H. Pugh on Kelly. Others who rode to the meet were Mrs Wilson on Auto, Miss Thomas on Malaga, Mr S. M'Kay on Bill, Mr A. J. Souter on Star Tractor, Mr J. M. Lyon on a chestnut, and Mr T. White on Toi Toi.

EGMONT-WANGANUI HUNT CLUB. The nominations received for the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club meeting caused the committee to consider the position. It was later announced that, having regard to the financial stress and other conditions, it was advisable to abandon the fixture in the meantime. HECTOR GRAY’S RECORD. This season Hector Gray, who scored his century at the Te Kuiti meeting on Saturday, May 23, has shattered all New Zealand riding records. The best tallies of other years were C. Jenkins’s 90 and B. Deeley’s 89. Already Gray has eclipsed these, and there are more than two months of the racing season to go. Gray’s achievement is phenomenal, says " Carbine,” in the New Zealand Referee. He is over 40 years of age, and after being out of the game for four years has returned to ride as well as, if not better than, ever he did. For this he has his unflagging industry to thank. Hard work during those four years kept him in the condition which is essential to success in riding. Altogether Gray has ridden nearly 900 winners—B37 in New Zealand alone. His percentage of winners is nearly 22 per cent, over all his whole New Zealand career. This season it is nearly 25. He has ridden in 3879 races in New Zealand. On six occasions he has ridden more than 60 winners in a season. The prize money he has won for owners exceeds £200,000 in New Zealand alone. On 29 occasions Gray has done the hat trick. _ Five times he has ridden four successive winners—at Dunedin in 1910-11, Foxton 1913-14, Dunedin 1913-14, Auckland 1920-21, and Opunake 1923-24. At the Opunake meeting mentioned above be not only rode four consecutive winners, but in seven rides scored five firsts and two seconds. In May, 1924, he rode five consecutive winners—four at Hawera, and one at Wanganui. The horses were Hipo, The Lamb, Income, and Yoma (twice). In the present season alone he has performed the hat trick seven times.

The following is Gray’s record in figures:—
