DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS SOCIETY

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Dunedin Competitions Society was held on Friday evening, Mr J. C. H. Somerville presiding. The chairman moved that Mr E. J. Smith be elected president for the ensuing year. This was seconded by Mr J. H. Walker aud carried. Mr Smith returned ' thanks for his election, and said he hoped with the support of the committee that the coming festival would prove very successful. Messrs A. Ibbotson and G. H. Elliffe were elected vicepresidents. Mr E. S. Wilson was reelected secretary, and Mr J. H. Walker was re-elected hon. treasurer. The following sub-committees were appointed:— Elocution: Messrs J. H. Moir (convener), E. J. Anderson, E. T. Moller, W. F. Abel, H. Braseh, and W. H. M'Kenzie: music— Messrs G. H. Elliffe (convener), J. Rennie, A. Ibbotson, J. L. Salmond. J. G. Dykes, and Dr Hall; dancing—Messrs W. H. M'Kenzie (convener), J. H. Walker, E. C. Reynolds, J. C. H. Somerville; finance —Messrs J. H. Walker (convener), J. Rennie, J. G. Dykes, A. Ibbotson, E. C. Reynolds, and J. C. H. Somerville; special prize, advertising, and committee to obtain new subscribers—Messrs J. C. H. Somerville (convener), W. A. Hamell, E. T, Moller, J. H. Moir, E. J. Anderson; sub-committee to wait upon choirs —Messrs G. H. Elliffe (convener), W. H. M'Kenzie. J. C. H. Somerville, W. F. Abel, J. Rennie, J. L. Salmond. The Bristol Piano Company wrote advising that it would again present a scholarship.—Received with thanks. It was decided to include a character dialogue for boys or girls under 16 in the programme. It was also agreed to include a 15 minutes’ play. A sub-committee was appointed to make inquiries and submit a report to the next meeting regarding musical, elocution, and dancing - judges. The secretary submitted a proof of the syllabus, and stated that he was just waiting for a few more particulars, and hoped to have the book of words and syllabus out by this time next week. It was decided to meet again next Thursday.
