NELSON TO WELLINGTON

CURTAILMENT OF SERVICE. WELLINGTON, May 27. It was announced to-day by the Anchor Company, whose steamers Arahura and Matangi maintain a nightly ferry service between Nelson and Wellington, that owing to the depressed state of the passenger and cargo trade between the two ports, the service will be curtailed by the withdrawal of the Arahura, which will be replaced by a smaller vessel, the Kaitoa. The Matangi will be transferred to the Arahura’s run, leaving Wellington on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, and the Kaitoa will sail on the intervening nights. The Matangi will go on the patent slip at Wellington on Monday and will come off on Tuesday, sailing that night for Nelson. The Arahura will leave here on Tuesday for Nelson, where she will be withdrawn.
