Two of the doctors of the Wanganui Hospital Hoard staff have offered to hand back to the board 10 per cent of their remuneration (reports the Chronicle). They did not suffer the recent 10 per cent, -reduction in salary as they were governed by agreement. The chairman ieported that Dr M. Kronfeld and Dr E. J. E. Tcpham, the first stationed at Taihape, the second radiologist at Wanganui, had made the offer as they did not want to be the odd men out when the whole of the other members of the staff had had their salaries reduced. It was decided that letters of appreciation of their action should be sent to the two doctors. “ Radio is making a difference to our revenue account, and I should say that it is responsible for an increase of several hundred pounds in the year just closed.” stated the engineer to the Tararua Electric Power Board (Mr E. B. P. Wicks), in the course of a report to the board. These new radio sets not only use a certain, amount of current, but by the entertainment they give keep people up late, consequently using more electricity for lighting. It is easy to see, therefore, that as. thesb sets get more and more into Sgneral use they will' have a decided result on our revenue.” I regret that there is so much juvenile crime in this district; more drastic measures will be necessary in the future, said Mr P. H. Harper, S.M., in the Child Welfare Court at Gisborne the other morning, when three boys aged from to 12 years admitted having broken into a house and stolen an electric torch and. a money box containing 4s 6d. Detective M‘Leod mentioned that the boys were the sons of respectable people, and had not previously been in trouble. In view of their ages the magistrate said he would treat the boys leniently on this occasion, and . they were severely admonished and placed tinder the supervision of the child welfare officer for 12 months.
