OTAGO HUNT CLUB. Meeting at the kennels, the followers of the Otago Hunt Club on Saturday made their way to the Otago Peninsula. The throw off was near the soldiers’ memorial in Mr J. Robertson’s farm, whence the trail led through the properties of Messrs D. Robertson, E. Hellyer, J. Matheson, D. Hall, and G. Donaldson, the run being about three miles and ahalf over country that only experienced hunters could cover. Most of the jumps were on slopes, and the take offs and landings were difficult. During the hunt the hounds broke on several occasions, which necessitated some exceptionally hard riding by the hunt officials to collect m! em , and brin R them back to the trail. The huntsman and whip deserve special credit for the work they did, and the spectators were delighted with their exhibition of jumping, wire fences and stone walls being taken in excellent style. A hunt such as this certainly gives the

followers plenty of thrills. Although there is not the country in Otago that there is in other parts of New Zealand for hunting, the followers of the Otago Club make the most of their opportunities, and thoroughly enjoy their afternoon’s sport. There were a few spills, and the deputy master’s horse fell heavily while he wag galloping down a hill to collect some hounds that had broken away. _ He was able, however, to mount immediately and continue with the hunt. Those who qualified were the master (Mr J. N. Murdoch) on Kismet, the deputy master (Mr H S. Jones) on Tornado, Huntsman F. Kydd on Stately, Whip D. G. Binnie on Starset. MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the committee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club was held on Thursday evening, the president (Mr B. S. Irwin) presiding. There were also present Messrs J. Richardson, J. Trengrove, John Mitchell, W. J. L. Cough]an, H. Archbold, R. Greenslade, and James Mitchell. Advice was received from the New Zealand Trotting Conference that its annual meeting would be held in Wellington on July 14.—The president was appointed the club’s delegate to the conference. It was decided to apply for the following dates for the 1931-1932 season November 26 and 28; January 28 and 30; May 5 and 7. A letter was received from Mr J Craig, who, having relinquished his position as inspector to the Otago Society for the Prevention of Cruelty t<> Animals, thanked the committee for the many kindnesses shown him during hi° term of office.—lt was decided that the secretary write to Mr Craig thanking him on behalf of the club for services he had rendered to it, and wishing him every success in the future. , The secretary of the Otago A. and P Society wrote pointing out that the society wished to use small tables instead of long ones in its luncheon booth at the Winter Show, and requested the loan of 20 to 25 tables from the club.— It was decided to accede to the request. Permission was granted to the Dunedin Coursing Club to hold a coursing meeting on Forbury Park on June 5 and 6 Accounts amounting to £156 14s 8d were passed for payment. The president reported that the winter meeting had resulted in a loss of £240 6s Bd, which he considered very satisfactory under the circumstances'. This compared more than favourably with the result of the summer meetin" on which the loss was £1439 ll s Bd. °
