OTAGO CHESS CLUB

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The first meeting of the newly-elected committee of the Otago Chees Club was held on Saturday evening, when there were present:—Mr W. Herbert (president), Dr Barnett, and Messrs O. Balk, J. P. Morris, W. G. Stenhouse, J. S. Lawson, T. M. Gillies, R. M'Dermid, and D. Harris Hastings. Regrets were expressed at the inability of the hon. secretary (Mr G. D. Wright) to be present,and the acting-secretary was instructed to convey to him the sympathies of the members in his illness. It was decided to hold the following competitions during the forthcoming season:—Senior and junior championships and handicap tournament. —Upon the motion of the chairman, it was decided to reinaugurate the ladder tournament, and the chairman was accorded a vote of thanks for having drawn up the necessary rules, and also for his gift of a prize. The following committees were set up: Match Committee—Messrs R. M'Dermid (convener), W. G. Stenhouse, and L. D. Coombs; House Committee—Messrs J. P. Morris (convener), A. M'Dermott, and J. S. Lawson. The question of cleaning the club rooms was, after discussion, referred to the House Committee to act. It was decided that future committee meetings be held on the fourth Saturday of each month.
