OTAGO FARMERS' HORSE BAZAAR.
The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association of New Zealand reports: There was a good attendance at our horse sale on Saturday. The entry, consisting principally of country horses}- was a large one, and included a' number of superior draught mares and geldings, with a percentage of aged horses. Although we made a number of good sales, the market, taken all through, was rather duller than usual. In spite of this, we succeeded in clearing nearly the whole of our country consignments. We do not anticipate a further drop in the market, or, indeed, that the present slackness will continue, and from this on, as brood mares are taken out of work, there should be a keen inquiry for working draughts We are holding our annual sale of pedigree Clydesdale marc 3 and working geldings on Friday, October 1, the day after the annual stallion parade, and we have every confidence that good active draughts will sell well. Our country consignments on Saturday came from, Papaiowai, Milton, Akatore, Middlemarch, Wyndham, Clinton, and the Taieri. Ws quote : Good Clydesdale mares, suitable for stud purposes and general fatrm work, £40 to £67; good useful draught mares and geldings, young and sound, from £35 to £44; ordinary farm draughts, £28 to -£35; lighter and older, £20 to £28; heavy lorry, geldings, from £40 to £55; spring-carters, suitable for town and hill work, £20 to £30; upstanding buggy mares and geldings, from £16 to £25; hackneys, from £10 te £15; lighter sorts, from £6 to £10.
