EDENDALE DAIRY FACTORY

i The board of directors, in presenting to shareholders the balance sheet for the year ended August 31, say t!he output of cheese for (.he season was 875 tons. Th© export portion was sold at a satisfactory figure, although not quite up to that of previous years. The " back-end " por1 tion, owinig to the large quantity of it, and the objection buyers have to "'turnipy" flavours, was more difficult to dispose of. It is getting more difficult every year to make satisfactory sales of " back-emd " cheese. Meet of it has to go into local oonsum-ption, and the quantity new offering more than meets the demand. The surplus has to be exported, and' our methods of winter feeding make it impossible to turn out a clean-flavoured cheese ; consequently, the value decreases. Mr John. Sawers continues in the management of the compaoiy. Th© bank having asked that c sinking fund be established, the directors agreed ro an annual setting asiJfe oi 5 per ceptum on the capital value of the land, buildings, arad plant. This year the sum of £300 has been reserved for this purpose. That a dividend of 6 per centum be paid on the paidup capital of the company is recommended. As provided for in the articles of association, three directors retire—namely, Messrs Joinn Eades, D. R. Hunter, and Hugh J. Marshall — aJI beingeligible for re-election, and offer themselves accordingly. The following nominations for the office of director of tne com-pamy have been received : Messrs Alexander Cranstoun, John Eadies, D. R. Hunter, Hugh J. Marshall, Charles Milne, Benjamin Parker, and Geo. Stuai-t. Ballot papers, with full instructions as to voting, are sent herewith. The balance eheefc shows that £43,583 17s 4d had been paid for milk, and £49,821 received for cheese.
