NORTH BRUNNER COAL MINE.
{Fbom Oxtr Owk Cobbespondkot.J GREYMOUTH, September 10. •At North Brunner recent prospecting has disclosed a 7ft 6in seam of splendid coal. Before the flotation of the company, the Brunner seam was traced and located over a large area on the top of the hill, which will be reached by am incline rope road from Stillwater. During the last few weeks prospecting operations have been in hand with a view to tracing this top seam round towards the proposed head of the incline, and these have resulted in the location of the seam in a very convenient position near the proposed incline. The coal is of the same good hard quality that it was at the 1 other outcrops. The real value of the find is that it shows the seam to be continuous and solid. In other words, it confirms absolutely the estimates made respecting its probable position. As to the works on the property, the bridge is now well advanced, and is going ahead quickly, the staging being now across from bank to bank of the river, and tha rope road formation is progressing satisfactorily. The ; jskeleton of the bins 73 now up, and siding formation well adi vanced. The coal of the 16ft seam is being opened up, and should be ready, to bring down when the other works at» complete. Mr Harper thinks that the original estimate that the coal would be ready for the market by the New Year will be realised if a fair amount of fine weather is experienced. The pass three months' broken weather has had the effect of delaying all outside works considerably.
