MANAWATU TOURNAMENT.
PALMERSTON N., September 8. The Manawatu Club's annual golf tournament was continued to<lay in finer weather. The 16 who . qualified yesterday for the championship began match play to-day. In the fir&t round, Kurupo Tarehu (Napier) beat W. Hannan (Christchurch), K. Duncan (Wellington) b;at H. Gillies (Hawera), Burns (Auckland) beat Stedman (Manawatu), Barraud (Manawatu) beat V. Harman (Manawetu), Dnill (Manawatu) beat Colonel Tuson (Wellington), Pryde (Manawatu) beat Treweek (ChTistchurch), Colbeck (Auckland) beat L. Seifert (Manawatu), Cox (Christchurch) beat J. C. Bidwell (Wairarapa). In tho second round Kurupo Tareha beat Duncan, Burns beat Barraud, Dnill beat Pryde, Cox beat Colbeck. E. S. Pearce, of Wellington, with a. handicap of 4, won the Bogey Handicap, 3 up. Cox (scratch) was 2 up. Hudson (handicap 16) and P. Moore (handicap 9) tied in the Stroke Handicap with 76. PALMERSTON .N., September 9. The Manawatu Club's tournament was finished to-day in delightful weather. In the semi-finals of the Manawatu Championship, O. H. Druce -(Manawatu) beat C. C. Cox (Masterton), and Kurupu Tareha (Napier) beat Burns (Auckland champion), both by 3up and 2to play. Tareha went round in 78. In the final Tareha beat Druee by 4 up and 3 to play. Tareha cannot go on -to Auckland owing to private business, so he will not participate in the New Zealand Championship this year. Most of the others are going.
