OTAGO LAND BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Otago Land Beard commenced its sittings yesterday. Preseait: Tli3 Commissioner of Crown Lands (Mr E. H. Wilmot), Messrs G. Livingston, J. Tongh, D. Barron, and J. A. Macpherson, who took his seat on the board for the first oime. The Commissionar and others welcomed the new member, who suitably replied. James Nieper applied feu: exemption from residence on section 73, blcek VIII, Leaning Rock district, held by him unde* occupation lease No. 132. — Exemption granted during pleasure of the board. G. A. Reade and Sons, lessees of S.G. j Run No. 79e, Barewood, applied for a homestead airea over 120 acres' of the run. — | Referred to City Council to know if any objection. Ranger O'Neill reported on sections 28, 29, and 32, block VI. Clarendon district, formerly held under l.i.p. by George Coutts. And also reported^ upon sections 21 and 22, block V, same district, not yet selected. — Sections to be offered under pastoral lease for term of 14 years, upset £4 per annum. The Stock Department forwarded an application from VV. Phillips for a grazing license over sections 27 and 28, block *I, Beaumont district. — Donaldson's license over one referred to be declared lapsed. „ -W. Phillips granted a yearly license at rent of £2 10s per annum. Andrew Fraser applied for permission to sow down in grass an area of about 60 acres of section 9, block 111, Dart district, held by him undei pastoral license No. 1131. — Recommended on approval of the Minister. Letter from Thomas Duffy, lessee of section 10, Tokarahi Settlement, applying to be allowed a remission of further halfyear's rent on account of damage done to his section by tailings. — Declined. Rangers Atkinson a.nd O'Neill reported on the application by John Law for a license, over the Eweburn Crook Reserve, between sections 7, block VI, and 5, block V, Maniototo district. — Application by John Law declined. It was deoided that lease held by the late B. Docherty over area referred to be determined. Ranger O'Neill reported on the application by E. T. Kitto for a yearly license over part of section 54, block IX, Leaning Rock district.— A yearly license granted, rent 10s per annum. Hugh Curry applied for a license over a reserve fronting section 43, block IV, Green vale district. — Yearly license granted at rent of 2k 6d per annum. , George Henry applied for a license oves about 6 acres, part of the Mining Reserve .in block 111, Tuapekf West district.-r-Yearly license granted, rent 2s 6d per annum. A. D. Mitchell wrote with reference to the upset price fixed for sections. 1 and -2, -block XXI, Town of Pembroke.— That the classified and suburban land are offerecV at -auction at upset of £1 per section. A. * M'Corkindale applied for a grazing Jicense over about 5 acres, part of the -Mining Reserve opposite sections 109 and 163, block I, Waitahuna West district. — License granted, rent 10s per annum. The Stock Department forwarded an application from E. O'Connell for a license .to occupy small area adjoining section 8, block 11, Strath Taieri district. — License granted, rent 10s per annum. R. IVarnoek and J. Leal applied for exemption from residence on section 12, block VII, Woodland dKstr.ict, efi they are residing within half a mile of the section. — Granted during pleasure of the board. The Warden forwarded a report on the application by Mrs A. B. Drumney for a reduction in rent of her occupation lease over sections 28, block VII, and 8, block IX, Loaning Reck district, on account of area grantsd for mining.— Application for reduction of rent declined. Consideration was given to the application by Mrs S. Dobson to purchase an area of about 12 acres, part of section 18; blook 11, Maruwhenua district. — The County Council stated that Ihere was no objection to the reservation being removed.—Reservation to be removed with a view of the land being sold to Mrs Dobson. An application by Peter Jack for section 47, Windle Settlement, was approved, as was also an application by Edwin H. Wood for section 31. Jame3 Begg applied foi t temporary grazing license over sections 1. 5, 8. 10, block VII, Kuriwao district.— Grante d' for 12 months from February 1 last at 6d par acre. John C. Begg wrote with . reference ■to -sections sa, 6, 7. and 11, block VII. and 2, blcck. XII, Kuriwao district.— License granted for-6ix months from September 1, at rent of 4d per acre. Mrs Catherine Begg applied foi permission to erect about three miles of rabbit -proof fencing on Run 129. and also for permission to cultivate a small portion of the run. — Minister recommended to approve of rabbit-proof fencing, and ako as to cultivation of a portion of the run. Ranger O'Neill reported on the application by W. A. Bodkin, on behalf of Jowe L\e, for a yearly license over an area of about four acres in the town of Alexandra.—Declined as a great part of land applied for is held under mining license. Brodnck and Chalmer, on behalf of R. A. I h 'Hips, applied fov a renewable lease over 640 acres at. Long Gully. Tarras.Held over until i' » Morven Hills applications are being dealt with. F. G. M'Knight wrote with reference to • the forfeiture of his lease over S. G Run ; 224 Y. Blackstone district, and asking the board to reconsider its decision.—Forfeiture rescinded. To be informed that unless ; residence is complied with within three i months the lease will be absolutely forfeited. , Annie M'Knight wrote with reference ; to the forfeiture of her lease over S.G. j Run 2245, Blackatone district, and asking ' Iho board to reconsider its decision. — For1 feiture rescinded. To be informed that unless residence is at once complied with forfeiture will ensue. Patrick Weaver applied for an occupation lease over 30 acres in Leaning- Rock district.—Held over pending board's decision re opening fruit-growing block on Earnscleugh. J. H. Simons applied for a grazing ; license over part section 48, block IV, Greenvale district. — License granted over part opposite section 44, at 22s 6d per annum. The application of J. , B. in the Makarora River was adjourned at objector's request. The Warden forwarded a report on th© application by Iver Johnson for an occupation lease o\er 27 acres of unsurveyed land in block VI, Tarras district. — Granted subject to survey, applican to bear cost of fencing. Mr G. Livingstone and Ranger Atkinson reported on the damage done by shingle overflowing on sections 9 and part 10. Tokarahi Settlement. — Report adopted, board to visit ground at an early date.
