CHATTON.

September 10.—Aftear a, week of wet, Bhowery weather, spring has again resume<3 in. the shape of nice, warm, sunny days. The young grass has shown a marked growth these few days back, and given good weather it should be in abundance by the end of tne month. The recent rains, however, gut a stop to the- sowing ofwheat, ma King this cereal rather late for this part c-T the district. Oat-sowing haTj not yet started, although the ground is irj most places ready to receiTß the seed. Lambs are making their appearance in several paddocks, and co far very few deaths have occurred. Improvements.—Quite a number of new. buildings have *nade their appearance in the district. Messrs Prebble and Jno. Ford have had very nice dwellings erected on their respective properties, while Mr E. Cummings and Mr Falconer have added improvement* in the shape of stables, barra, etc. All tuTd speaks well for the prosperity of the district. House-warming.—.4 large number of friends and neighbours of Mr end Mn Jno. Ford met at their residence for th« purpose of giving them a "house-warming" on the occasior of their shifting into their new dwelling, After part of the evening had been pleasantly 6pent in various way* the floor was cleared foe dancing. Need* less to say, it was the "wee, ama' oorV* before those present made their way home* wards, having tSorougnly enjoyed them* selves. Concert.—The Cfcatton^ School Commit* tee intend to hold a concert and dance in aid of the school funds on the 29th. Th« purpose is a good .one, and should be well supported' throughout the district. I hea». a specially good programme has been .' arranged, so visitors may rest assured o| getting their moneys worth in the wai of a good night's enjoyment.
