SUCCESSFUL DEMONSTRATION. WELLINGTON, September 6. This morning at about B.OU the Fisher patent " non-capsizable lifeboat" the boat harbour at Oriental Bay wth Mr G. Mlaine in charge, and a passenger list of four— three ladies, Mesdames Fisher, Mlaine, and Davies, and the inventor's small daughter. Appioaehing 11 o'clock the boat was towed alongside the Glasgow wharf. The passengers disembarked in good order and condition, and expressed themselves as well satisfied with tlie journey across the harbour. There had be«n no inconvenience of any kind. The three ladies conjointly manipulated the driving gear attached to the toipedoshaped craft, the appajatius working excellently, while Mr Mlaine ?teeied. After leaving the boat harbour the boat was cut away, and the man in. charge manoeuvred her across the harbour for a distance, and demonstrated her qualities ac a traveller steru fir&t. Altogether the lifeboat was in the water for a couple of hoirre or more, ar.d the passengers • inside informed a Post repr€sentative that the ventilation was quite equal to all the demands made upon it. On arrival at the w harf side the nventor, who, with the aid of a boat's crew of four boys, had towed the lifeboat in from the centre of the harbour in order that faith might bs kept with the public, who had been advised, that a demount ration would bs given at 11 oclock, w ith the aid of onlookers and s-e\eral ropes endeavoured to capsize the craft, but without Miccess. the vessel absolutely refusing to 101 l more than half way over. When the boat wa-s being transferred from the harbour to the Maori, which takes it to Lyttelton tonight, a quantity of water ran away from her. This it i» said was tli€ result of the previous exhibition, the water not having been all baled out. Mr Fisher states that the demonstration was in every way satisfactory. The boat is only a rough example as yet. but when properly fitted up, which' will include more ventilation valve*, and in>.et bull'seyes for the purpo.->e of noting where one is going (the lattpr will do away with the coning tower at present in use), he expects his invention to convince n.-ost sceptics. The ideal boat in support of the self-rightinc principle would be built doubly heavy down below, thus lessening the chance of a capsize, though the inventor does not at all fear the latter. It is under-tood that improved plans of the life-fcavinig ve^=«l nre'in active preparation foi' patenting throughout the world.
