MOMONA.
September 6. — During the past fortnight we have experienced very severe weather. Early bust week the surrounding hills were heavily coated with snow, and Maungaiua has not yet discarded her white mantle. Very heavy rain fell during .he early hours of lost Wednesday morning,, and farmers were beginning to wear anxious expressions, but fortunately the rain ceased in time to prevent any serious damage resulting. There is an unusual area under cultivation in Momona this season and a flood at this time would cause inestimable mischief. At time of writing the weather is ■ beautifully fine, and it is to be hoped that it will continue so for some time. The Farm. — As a result of the wet weather experienced, agricultural operations have been practically at a standstill. Fortunately in the majoiity of instances farmers were well forward with their work, and so this period of enformed idleness is not felt as a serious inconvenience. Most of the wheat crop has been sown, and ploughing is practically finished, excepting in a few cases where turnips have not been all fed off. From now onwards farmers will be busily engaged in preparing the land for next season's potato crop. Potatoes are grown faiilv extensively here and are generally regarded by farmers as being a profitable product. Up-to-Dates are the principal vaiiety cultivated, and growers generally make a point of importing their seed from the south each year. Dairying. — The milk supply at our local croamery is steadily increasing, and from Thursday next the milk will be received daily. I have not heard definitely whether choese is to be manufactured this summer, but probably it will. Approaching School Concert. — Our annual school concert is to be held in the Momona schoolhouse on Friday, October 1. Already a number of tickets have been disposed of. Arrangements in connection with the concert are well in hand, and we are looking forward to an enjojable entertainment. School Gardens. — Mr Chosney and his pupils have the flower and vegetable gar dens at the school in beautiful older.
