September 4. — Beautiful weather is now being experienced. Football.— A benefit football match was played at Quoenstowu on Wednesday between Queenstowai and Arrow players v. Komarkables Although the majority of the -latter team, had not played this season, they managed to secure a victory by 11 points to 5. Some £4 was collected on tho ground, and this sum will be handed to Mirs Collins, of Queenstown, whose husband lias been in iiho Frankton Hospital foi some time. Arbor Day.— Arbor Day was celebrated in Queenstown on the 25th ult. Somo 450 trees had been purchased by .the Borough Council, and these wore planted out by tho school children, assisted by the adults. .After tho treerplantittg was over, tho chil- , dren were regaled with an abundance of *weets f icindly pro*ided by the townspeople. The- Queenstown Brsss Band helped to enliven the proceedings very considerably by contributing a number of selections. Death. — Another of the old pioneers of th© "Wakatipu district, in the person of Mr George Roister, .passed away rather suddenly *at hie residence, Queenstown, on Tuesday morning last. Deceased wa 7 year* of age, and was a native of Hamburg, Germany Ho arrived in tho district about 40 years ago, and carried on mining with varying success *n tho Shotover for the greatei part of that time. Some time ago, through 'ailing health, he retired from mining, and settled idown in Queenstown. The late Mr Reisler was of a most genial disposition, 'and was generally respected. Ho loaves a wife, but no family, and sympathy is general with the widow in her bereavement . Queenstown Regatta Club.— The annual meeting of member* was held in ths Garri«on Hall, Queenstown, on flic 25th ult. Mr M. J Gavin presided. The balance sheet, which was adopted, showed a credit balance of £26 7s 4d. The report referred to the unfortunate weather conditions experienced for last regatta, and to the splendid support received" from the various rowing clubs throughout Otago and Southland. It was cleoided to -hold the regatta on Easter Saturday% as in former years. The. following office-bearers and committee were elected : — Patrons— His Excellency Lord Plunket, Sir Joseph Ward, Air W. CSrawshaw, D. F. Sutherland, A. Domigan, A. J Thomson, and J. M'Bride.— Mr G. N. Morris was re-elected secretary, and Mr W. B. Hawson auditor The mooting was a most enthusiastic one, which augurs well for the success of tho regatta of 1910.
