Btarettries are r«qus*Ufl to forward particular* tf g«me» played and of forthcoming match*!. >«4i — — ~~~ K6TES BY JACK. 'Although not formally 'decta-eH, there twine no provision to tha* effect, Air J. M Gailaway ha? been elected unopposed -m president of the New Zealand Bowlm* •Association, while M* F. W. Johnston, of Onrisfcchuroh, becomee vice-presidieot, and iMr J. H. Hancock treasurer. There are six members of the council to be elected from the nine nominated. Messrs Allan, TD»H Gray, amd Wadd-ell, member* of the Weent council, have been re-nominafced, >hile the new members proposed tor the two additional vacancies are Messrs Balk, Crow, Maxlow, Speight, and Taylor. These *l*ttor, with Mt WfeuJdeU, of the council, are the nominees of the Ctoistoburoh and Dunedin Centres. Mr Fred. "Smith, who was the first treasurer under r ihe present constitution, declined' to stand. "It is tc ba hoped that it was through come Bovwsigbt that Mr J. Rsnnfe, the present was not re-nominated. No meml»r of the council worked more strenuously -thin Mr Rennie. and in- view of the assistance he rendered to the Christehuroh Centre jrt the association tournament, e<ad th» Duo"*dui Centre at its Christmas tournament, It is matter for surprise- that neither of these bodies paid him the compliment of "(recognising- the es-rvicec he rendered to them. : The notice of motion given, by Mr Wad'dftli for ihs first meeting of the new council f c«Jls for little comment. It is in one re.'•peofc a little premature in that it asr inm«s Mr Wed dell will be .re-elected, l-whereas iheu-e is no guarantee that such will ffee the case. Then, although possibly not intended, the result would be to practically "ieduos th« status of the present association tournament to a centre tournament. It prould be something of an anomally to have Itwo champion rinks and two ©hampicn singles players among the bowlers holding kinder tho N.Z.8.A., and that would proffcably be the result if the proposal is [adopted, or as an altarnative, the play at gtbe association tournament would not, as st ppresant, be foi the championships, but Snerely for the trophies offered by the centre icontrolling the tournament. If that is the ireo.l object of the motion, that ehouid be clear. r r . A little master isliich came before the '•last .meeting of the council of the N.Z.B.A. praises many important points. It was from phe Lawrence" Club asking if it could secede pfrom the South Otago Centre and still its connection with the" associaftion. The reply wa6 that under the conStitution this could not be done, as it is j&Tovided "that "all clubs within a centre shall be deem?<l to belong to that centre." tawrencs is unfortunately isolated from She other clubs within the South Otago Centre, with T.lia exception of Milton, and it -wae stated at the annual meeting that it bad b?'?n .practically found impossible to take part in the interclub matches that had bean arranged. Lawrence Club, therefore, derives littla advantage from its conirecticn with the South Otago Centre 1 . Now *he best solution of the d-fnculty wo.uld be Sihe formation of other clubs near Lawrence, say at Waitahuna. Tuapeke .West, SB'jd Tuapcka Mouth. This is a matter to '-which the council misrht devote sonw attention. The n*w president has a rare opportanity of dii'tioguishing himself by promoting n^w clubs and new greens in various fiisfcricts. This seems the beet method of Iwfcifyin.jr the existence of such en emasculated body as the Dunedin and Obrktshi'irch Ccmlre desire to make the council. - The annual meeting oi the Paimerston CSbb was vr-ell attended. Mr E. Lefevre, he president, being- in the chair. The report congratulated 1 members on the erection rf a. naw pavilion and lockers. The cottage ►d land purchased now stood at £92 2s. r James Ross, an original member of the üb, was elected president; Mr W. B. aUoway, vice-president; Mr C. Crump, ftoreta.rv and treasurer ; and Dr Hislop, j^eiars Sloan. M'Donald, Porteous. Muir, tod W. J. Ros,- at committee. Messrs hroean and Taylor were elected delegates p*the North Of-aso Centre. Th.9 Ea'clutha green has been top-clre^s-ed y Mr Mitchell, of Dunedin, and members ope that if the weather keepe fin? the lot will be in a fit state to play upon y the beginning 1 of next month. jAs Mr W. M'Leod has decided to retire oto the preaidency of the New South Uec Bowlinjr Association he will bs- sueMded by Mr George Raffen, a good nrier and very popular. !Tne Victorian Bowling Association, after uoh delay, has decided to fall into line ifch other associations, as arranged at a inference held in Sydney more than a iv ago, ' and has notified that in all itune inter-State, " inter-association, and 4«r-Australaaian competitions the playing rof green ehall not be more than reserving the right to play any Mth in ite own pennant and other^comutions. more iKaif SO years Ayrshire BJid Hraigcyw have competed for the now hisBno cup presented by the late Earl Of It is regarded as an honour to Hi a place in one" of the teams. This Bason the match was played on ttie G-las-■pw gi^eens, 181 rinks on each side, or
1448 players, taking part. tiffia players were selected from 39 Glasgow and 46 Ayrshire clubs. The game was one of 31 up. The weather for the occasion was delightful. The contest resulted in a win, for the Ayrshire team with 5391 points to Glasgow's 5368 points. A majority of 23 points where 181 rinks aside are taking part may be regarded 43 a narrow one. The Prestwick Club was found to be the winner of the trophy and £7, with an average of 15 1-3 per rink majority. In ail eight prizes were given to eight clubs on the winning side. On the Glasgow side the Titwood Club had an average of 19 2-5 per rink. Last yeaT Ayrshire were also the winners. MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Christchurch Centre wrote at great length as to the financial recommendations of the .council, some of which were disapproved of. The centre also forwarded a lengthy li6t of recommendations. — Received. The Dunedin Centre forwarded th« decisions it had arrived at in connection with the council's proposals.
