There is said to be some likelihood of a local syndicate procuring a ground with the object of promoting pony and galloway meetings on somewhat similar lines to those being held from time to time in Wellington. General Soult (by Soult-Hotchenna) and the two-year-old Lieutenant Soult (by SoultCorniak) have been added' to the horees in training under the care of J. B. Williamson. As a two-year-old, General Soult won the A-R.C. Welcome Stakes and Muaket Stakes, but went amiss and was given a rest for over 16 months. The well-known Napier horse owner, Mr E J. Watt, has nominated Muskerry and Wimmera for events to be decided at the Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting. Mr J. Twohill "las increased his team of horees in training by purchasing the jumper Arty. The stallion Gladstone was sold by auction on Friday last, and was knocked down to Mr W. Lester at 290 guineas. Gladstone, ■who is by Seaton Delaval from Mis» Gladys, won some good races, among the number t>ein<r the Great Northern Derby. Seraphic, Ikon, and Bullworth were chipped to Sydney by the s.s. Mokoia last Tuesday. Foalings reported from the Glenora Park Stud during the week are: — Mr J. Twohitl's Lady Clair (by Hippocampus) filly to Gluten; Mr W. Walters's Elf (by Dread-nought-Elf Lock) filly to Soult ; Mr J. Hill's Gold Web (by St. Hippo-Cobweb), colt to Gluten An Auckland enthusiast has purchased the trotting horse Previous, and the purchase will be brought "north shortly by A. Hamilton. With upwards of 100 horses in training at EUorelie everything points to the season just being entered upon proving- a very successful one in Auckland.
In allotting Master Soult 8.8 in the X.Z. Cup it cannot be suggested that Mr Henrys has treated the Auckland candidate other than leniently.
