WELLINGTON NOTES.
Br Ojtlooub.
August 21. Harry Hickey, the Hawke's Bay trainer, left for . Sydney yesterday with Mundic, Kairoma, and Rawera. They belong to Mr W. H. Rooney, recently in business in Christchurch. He was in Sydney a year ago, and may again take up his permanent residence there. Rawera has so far done nothing to justify her being taken so far. It looks like as if Mr Fred Douglas intends to remain on the other side. His private trainer, J. Cameron, was only back a short time, and returned from Auckland on Monday last with Ikon, Bullworth, and Seraphic. Ikon and Bullworth are both useful members of their: class, but have both had interrupted preparations. All Red, who has been given top weight in the New Zealand Cup, will probably be seen out at the Herewbenua and Wanganui meetings. Your correspondent considers it unlikely that he will fulfil his Australian engagements. ~ JjOveH^-was awarded 13.'13 in the Hunt Club at Marton. It is unlikely that he will be started, but will probably be kept for some more important events later on. The first meeting 6f the season of the Wellington Pony and Galloway Racing Club wilf^be held at Mirimar on September 4 and 11. There are .at present, a great number ,'of ponies in training hereabout. The w,ell-known rider H. Cairns left for Sydney to-day to ride Tumut and Osiris in their engagements on the other side. Verne Colello took -Nadador home on Wednesday last. She will probably be spelled until next winter. Judging by the big entries received for Marton, which sets the ball /rolling, it looks as if the spring meetings will not be failures thro'igh the want of fields. No le3S than 34 entries were received for~a Trial Hurdle Race at Marton. The list includes the much-boomed and disappointing Wirral. Mr W. E. Bidwill has, leased Gravitation to Sir George Clifford for 12 months, and the Birkenhead horse will take Clanranald's place at Stoneyhurst. " Tyrannic, who won four races within/ a fortnight, is engaged" at the Wairarapa Hunt and Marton meetings. The programme of the spring or summer meeting- of the Wellington Racing Club will probably include either a champion mile race or a weight-for-age race over a nrle and a-quarter. There has been a good deal of difference of opinion among the committee as to which it will be. The matter may be definitely settled at the next monthly Tweeting of the committee. King Post, who showed good form at the Grand National meeting, will probably be laced at Marton and Rangitikei. As a. rule it is not hard to win the flat races at the meetings mentioned.
