EMBRYO OF PLATYPUS. This interesting looking infant is th still very young offspring of bizarre parents The platypus, or duck-billed mole, and the spiny echidna., are monotremes, and represent the lowest rung in the mammalian ladder. The young platypus is hatched from an egg of reptilian affinity, and the mode and stages of development show the animal to be a true " link " connecting reptilia and mammalia. Within its small body the platypus probably contains more " proofs of evolution, " than any other living animal.
