.Messrs John Dewar and Sons (Ltd.), the •well-knowD distillers, at the twelfth, annual meeting of the company, held at Perth on March 12, presented, a very satisfactory balance sheet for the year ending January 31, ' 1909. The profits for the year -were £161,326 19s 4d, which, with the balance brought forward teom ' the previous year (£26.417 lls 4d), made the total available for "distribution £187.744 10s 8d- This krefe sum the directors recommended should be disposed of as follows:— In payment,of dividend on ' preference shares at 5 per cent., £12.500; in payment of directors' salaries and income tax. £7987 19s; to be carried to reserve (which will then amount to £125,000), £5000; in payment of dividend on ordinary shares for the year at 30 per cent., £105,000; in oayment of a bonus or 15s per share on ordinary shares, £26.250, — leaviwr a balanca of £31,006 lls 8d to be carried forward to next year. The share capital of the company comprises 35,000 ordinary shares of £10 each, fully paid (£350,000), and 25,000 preference shares of '£10 each, fuHy paid (£250,000), a 'total of £600,000.
