! LONDON, August 23. Using a duplicate key 10 smartlydressed men entered Messrs Mappin and Webb's warehouse in Cheapside -«n Sunday afternoon, and with a jemmy assaulted the watchman in order to prevent an alarm being given. They inflicted serious wounds on the watchman's head. Five of the intruders escaped,, .but the j watchman crawled to the entrance of the building "and shouted for the police, and the five others, who were emerging, with several 'thousand pounds' worth of jewellery and plate, were arrested. They had in tlieir pockets masks and gloves, the latter being intended to conceal traces of their finger prints. Seven thousand pounds' worth of goods wei*e found packed on the premises » ready for removal. The capture is regarded as being of considerable importance.
