AUCKLAND v. WANGANUI.
WANGANUI, August 12. The Auckland representative hockey team played the first match of the tour at Wanganui this afternoon, the game ending in a draw. The weather was perfect, ' the ground in good order, and the attendance was over 1000. The first spell ended in favour of the visitors. Smythe scored by following up a shot;, from a line-hit. Auckland was superior in stick play. la the second spell the Wanganui forwards, showing better combination, kept the visitors' defence busy. Soler scored from a rebound from the goal-post. Spear, Cave, and Miller were the pick of the local team-. The Auckland half line was excellent*. Mather, Barry, and Smythe were the best; forwards. The visitors were continually, Galised for obstruction and carrying the Mr W Miller made an excellent referee.
