AUCKLAND v. POVERTY BAY.
WELLINGTON. August 15.
The representative Rugby football match •between the Auckland and - Poverty Bay provincial teams was played in ideal weather before en Attendance of about 3000 persons. The Aucklanders were, minus the services of the leading players, who are absent with the Ponsonby team, now returning from the Sydney tour. Auckland won a game full of interest and incidents by 12 points to 8. In the first spell Auckland attacked strongly for the first portion, and during that time registered 8 points through the agency of Robinson, who ' scored an unconverted try, and R. Magee, who touched down and converted the try. Before the spell closed Poverty Bay set up a strong attack, and after several, attempts to ecore, spoilt in many cases bv' inability to accept opportunities, Pollock got across, and registered Poverty Bay's only try. Fitzgerald converted. Early in the second ..spell- Poverty Bay showed much aggressiveaiess, and from a penalty kick Fitzgerald kicked a fine goal, thu3 equalising the score*. Poverty Bay had' the-, hetter of the remaining play, during which Wilson, of Auckland, potted a goal, and gave Auckland a win. The pick of the visiting backs were Fitzgerald (fu>l*, Ryland, Pollock, and Miller (three-quarters), and Watchorn and Kaipara (five-eighths). Of the forwards Low, Beaoh, and Nicholas. Seeling (who is, playing- in great form this season) stood out from aJI the other forwards, assisted by Waddell an-d Williams. Robinson, Renwick, and Magee were the pick of tie Auckland backs. v
The visiting team were entertained at & theatre partr on Friday. They leave by the Main Trunk express this evening in continuation of their tour to Wanganui and Hawke's Bay.
