A big American contest on novel lines is to be held in November by the New sTork Herald, the test serving a double purpose — viz., reliability of American care, md the improvement of the highway between New York and Atlantic City, a distance of nearly 1000 miles. The cour has been taken up enthusiastically all along the proposed route, and the event will be easily the most popular yet held in the United States. Tho prize list (gold oi trophies) is valued at £1000, besides gold medals to all contestants who score a certain number of points, whilst tho development of good roads along the route will be encouraged by the presentation of six prizes totalling 1 £690 to the districts which iave the best road section.
