Mr "Liskirk," owner of King Post, runner-up in the Winter Cup, did not journey down to the Grand .National meeting for the first day- He had the nice bet of 500 to 10 stoaigihfc "out, and had a fiver on the machine. He went south on Wednesday night, and witnessed the last two daye of the meeting. The many friends of Mr Sid. Nettlefold, part owner of Pink 'Un and owner of Serenade, will be pleased to hear that he has •recovered from the serious illness that laid him aside in London. Writing your correspondent on Juno 26 from JCrakow Mr Nettlefold said that he was on his way to Carlsbad to recuperate. He mentioned tnat he was present at Ascot. He expected to meet Hewitt in Austria. The Krakow race meeting he attended, and' was amused at the sport after the principal meetings in Australia and England Mr W Duncan, of Wanganui, was in town this week on business. He recently took a run through the Main Trunk line with trainer Fred Tilley, of Wanganui. The Fordell stable formerly sheltered! Otairi and MasrteUe, owned by Mr Wiri Tokena. While in Auckland he purchased a gelding by Bamma— Heart of Oak, intended for jumping races. Tb6 hall-brother to Pilot (Lovell), winner of the Enfield Steeplechase at RiccarEon, is ■by Huntsman, said to be a eon of Natator. There was a horse named Huntsman standing on the West Coast some seasons ago. He was by Opawa from a Glaucus more. Lovell was trained by J. H. Prosser at Porirua, and 1 is a class above the hunters seen out at the meeting. Nyland was only started on the first day at Kiccarton. He came back yesterday in company with Jack Pot, who went wrong before the meeting, and may not race again. George Price, Mr Higihden's trainer, went through yesterday on his way home.
Prior to the meeting J. Delaney announced his intention of retiring from, kne riding ranks on account of increasing weight.
0. Oodforaiie, who usually rides Compae preferred the ride on Auratus. Mr H. Moss will not seek re-election as a steward of the Wellington Racing Club. The vacancy will probably bs filled by the election of Mr L G. Duncan, of the Waikanae Stud.
The RamgitiSei Kacing Club's new course will not ■be finished in time for the club's spring- meeting, to be held about the middle of September. The committee has i-eoeived permission to ho2d the meeting on the Mar ton Jockey Cluib*6 property. The new course at Bulls will be opened' at New Year time.
