OTAGO FARMERS' HORSE BAZAAR.
The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association of Sew Zealand report:—We held our annual spiing hor=e sale on Thursday, August 5, when we had a splendid attendance of buyers from Canterbury, Oamaru, and Southland and the Western District, as well as buyers from Clinton, Waiwera, Waipahi, Crookston. Warepa, Clutha, Clydevale, Greenfield, Milton, Waikouaiti, .and Palmerston. Our entry comprised 92 horses, mado up of draught mares and geldings and a few vanners and light plough hor-^5. There was a largo gathering of leading farmers ami contractors, who were all anxious to fecurc mares of fairly good rjuality for stud purposes and farm woik, aUo good young active geldings. Both i these sous were in gicatest demand, and: aitracterl kosn attention right throughout tho aucrio-i. The feature of the sale, and j which attracted most attention, was Mr ' Peter Banon's (Thornbury) four-year-old filly, sire by Kelvin, dam by Herd Laddie, and uhich under keen competition fell to the bid of Mr Alex. Allison, Clarksville. at £67. On account of the same owner we Fold a four-year-old gelding, sired by Royal Knicrht. to.Mr Alex. Allison at £47. Mr J. W. Blair's entry al=o had considerable j attention, and reali-ed from £36 10-s to £41 10s. A large proportion of the entry of young, active maicc and geldings, for which there wa? capital competition, made from £32 to £33 and £40; mare* and geldin^s o\er t-u\en years, showing goorl brccfl- ! ing, activity, arxl good con-titutioiT,, fetched from £?5 to £28, in a f«w ca=c= £30 10 j £32; \annero, not hcaw, £25 to £32. case with the brood mares and fillies." On( particularly nice filly sired by Pride< Fancy realised £50, and a big upstanding gelding, the property of Mr James WyllieJ of Outram, sold under the hammer at £48/ To country clients from both north ana ) south we sold several teams of firet clas^ plough horses. The demand for this class, as well as for brood mares of the right stamp and quality, was exceptionally good.The number of spring-carters and ligh{ horses for Friday's sale was considerably larger than that at our first day's offeringy and the majority of sales were made a\ well over late values. On Saturday a< was to be expected, the entry was scarcely, as large as at our usual weekly sale, bu{ for good sorts of both heavy and light horses we found ready purchasers, especi* ally for young, active draughts. We quote:' Good Clydesdale mares, suitable for etud purposes and general farm work, £40 ta £67; good useful draught mare and geldings, young and sound, from £35 to £<1-1; ordinary farm draughts, £28 to £35: lighter and older, £20 to £28; heavy lorry, geldings, from £40 to £55; spring-carters, suitable for town and hill work, £20 to £30; upstanding buggy mares and geldings from £16 to #25; Kaekneys, from £10 ta £15; lighter sorts, from £6 to £10.
