HOBART, August 5. The report by the Victorian Government Pomologist, after an exhaustive investigation, declares the disease affecting Tasmanian potatoes to be Irish blight. August 7 The Government Entomologist disagrees with the other experts in the opinion that the potato disease is Irish, blight. August 9. The Government is pressing for New Zealand's reply to its request fer the loan of Mr T. W. Kirk's services in connection, with the potato dieease. MELBOURNE. August 6. Tiie Federal and State authorities propose to take prompt action to prevent the potato diseeee spreading from Tasmania to any other State. SYDNEY, August 9. The inspectors to-day condemned several thoiu»and bags of potatoes which were diseased. The Government will issue ? proclamation on Wednesday prohibiting the importation of Taemanian and Queensland potatoes, owing to the existence of Irish blight in those States. The price of Tasmanian redskins jumped to £9 in Sydney to-day, and eorne holders declined business at that figure. PERTH, August 9.
