DESTITUTE OF GENTLEWOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

In connection with the M'Lean Institute, established under the will of Mr Allan M'Lean, to provide a home for destitute gentlewomen, the annual statement of receipts and expenditure shows that on general account the receipts for the year totalled £7992 11s lid and the expenditure £7692 12s lid, leaving a credit balance of £309 19s. The chief item of revenue is £7942 14s sd, received from the trustees of the M'Lean estate, the principal payments being tSe purchase of QuaSnby , (£4609), sinking funds established (£1050), , furniture and fittings at Quamby (£716 10s sd), salaries and wages (£269 10s 7d), ! preliminary expenses re purchase of pro- j perty (£266 5s 9d), painting and repairs at "Holly Lea" (£248 ss). I
