Although it was thoir fir.~t match this season, the Aucklanders showed splendid combination, and the pace and tackling abilities of the forwards frequently nonplussed the opposing rearguard, of whom Anderson (2), Avery, and Nicoll were most prominent. Owing to the recent rains the "ground was on the heavy side.
