I The Soult gelding, Gay Paris, has been sold by W. Mobberley to a Gisborne sportsman. At the annual meeting of the Auckland Racing Club, the chairman {Hon. E. Mitchelson) outlined a number of improvements to be carried out at Ellerslie during tlie coming season, including the erection of a new stand. The opening of the local racing season of 190&-IO is heralded "by the announcement of the Avoridale Jockey Club that nominations for the Avondale Cup, First Handicap, Steeplechase, Plumpton Handicap, and Flying Stakes Handicap to be run during the third week in September, fall due on Friday. August 20. The horses in charge of the 24 trainers at Ellerslie number 112, 'F. M'Namara holding the longest string with 17, including five t«o-year-olds. Then follow P- Moraghan vvith 10, T. A. Williams eight, F. Stenning seven, W. Tozer, S. Hodge, and A. Robertson six each, C. Coleman, D. Bannatyne, J. B. Williamson. W Gall, and F. Hill five each, K. Heaton and W. Mobberley four each, G. Absolum, R. Hall, and W. G. Irwin four each, H. Home, R. Woodward, and E. J. Rae two each, and I. Conway, R. M'Micken, C Norgrove, and H. Gibb each with one charge. Miss Advance, who was in a ba,d way a few days ago with an internal complaint now appears Jikely to pull through. It is worthy of note that the £8169 paid by bookmakers for the privilege to bet at the Auckland Racing Club's gatherings during the year just closed is within £331 of the revenue received from the same source for the corresponding period by the Victoria Racing Club, which provides for lo days racing against 13 days in Auckiand, and does not use the totalisator
