August 7. L. Wilson, light- weight horseman for th« Hon, J. D. Ormond's stable this season, is at present on a holiday trip to Australia. It is reported that he will carry the colours of Downfall, Bobrikoff, and Co. nr-xt year. R. W. King and J. O'Connell returned from Australia on Wednesday last, and went on to Christchurch. J. Cameron is expected to return to Auckland on Sunday next. Kaitere and Waipu are to be left in Australia. If Iken trains on, she may be taken to the other side in the spring. Your correspondent attended the annual meeting of the Woodlands Hunt Club, held on the Pahiafcua course,- on Wednesday last. Harry Jackson, Blazer's old pilot, rode Captain Bell in his two engagements. He won the Maiden easily, but in the Open Hack Race failed to concede Matira, by Petroleum, 161b. Tyrannic, who is engaged at the Grand National Meeting, won two Hunters' Flat Races. He is a good sort, by the Government sire Tyranny, from Black Jacket, one of the late Mr Joseph Paul's mares. He was bred by Wjflter Best, in the Waverley district, and was ridden by his son Alf., who will ride him at Riccarton. Otus, who started in the Wellington Steeplechase, was one of a field of four that competed in the Hunters' Hurdle Race. He was ridden by his owner. L. V. Russell. His price lengthened before the start and the best — or worst — he could do was to run second. The stewarde disqualified the owner and rider for two years. Oakley, by ExplosionLeocant, won the principal steeplechase event easily, and should be heard of again. Zimmerman and Kairoma will be the only representatives of the Kararau stable , at the Grand National meeting.
