AUCKLAND. August 9. At the Police Court to-day an elderly woman named Ellen C'anall, who keep* a lodging house in Grey street, was fined £50 for sly grog-se)ling. Richard Fradatavich, who keeps a— lodging house in Hobson street, was ' sentenced to a month's imprisonment for a similar offence. — / A wealthy resident of Moscow owns th« smallest watch in the world, which one« belonged to the last Empress of Brazil. It was made in Geneva by the famous watchmaker, W. Zo;jelin, and cost over 5000g3. It has a diameter of one-fifth at an inch, and is set in an artistically-worked fingerring, which is studded with diamonds.
