SLIGHT GAIN. WELLINGTON, August 5. , The population of New Zealand on JuiK. 30 last (exclusive of Maoris, 47,731, and Cook Islanders) is estimated at 969,346. During the June quarter the arrivals num- , bered 6725 and the departures 10,242, or a loss of population of 3517 There were, however, 6730 births as against 2180death?, making the net increase for th* quarter 1033. .3
