WEST AUSTRALIAN MURDER

PERTH, March 7. Smith was found guilty of the murder of Clinton (a blacksmith) at Day Dawn on January 5 last, and was sentenced to death. Bloomer and Potter were found guilty as accessories after the fact, with a recommendation to mercy, as they were under Smith's influence. They -were sentenced to she" months' imprisonment. A blacksmith named William Clinton, employed on the Gx - eat Fihgal mine, at Dpy Dawn, was shot dead while asleep. His body was then thrown down a miningshaft, where it was found. Threa men were arrested and charged with mimlering Clinton. One of them, Jamee Potter, made a statement, in which he alleges that another of the arrested men, Harry Smith, shot Clinton, and that he and George Bloomer, the other accused, were only accessories after the act. Clinton was a married . man, with one child, and was about 26 yeare of age. It was stated that he had a half-interest with Smith in a mining claim. The other two men who were arrested in connection with the murder were, it is stated, relatives of Clinton J>y marriage.
