THE DAIRY INDUSTRY ACT.
STRINGENCY COMPLAINED OF. CHRISTCHURCH, March 8. At Christchurch the Hon. R. M'Nab (Minister of Agriculture) met a deputation of dairymen at the Provincial Council Chambers on Saturday, for the purpose of Hearing their grievances in regard to the Dairy Industry Act. Several dairymen contended that the act pressed hardly on them. The inspector was given too much power, and they would like to see the act altered so that in the event of the Agricultural Department's officer taking exception to the construction frf their bails, 6toek-
yards, etc., or the cleanliness of their cheds, the "matter could be taken to the court and argued before a magistrate. The Mm'stcr, in reply, said that a number of alterations were contemplated by the Government, and his object at prrsent was to collect evidence, which would guide the Government to amend the act in a manner that would be satisfactory to dairymen throughout the Dominion. The points raised by the deputation would receive the fullest consideration.
