IMPORTATION OF PIGS.
A SERIOUS LOSS. PALMERSTON N., March 7. During the week Slack Bros., the wellknown pedigree stock -breeders, received delivery from the Quarantine Station, Wellington, of a recently-imported large black Devon sow, reserve champion at the Royal Show last year. "While in quarantine the sow gave birth to a litter of 17 young ones, and in this connection Slack Bros, make strong complaint against the authorities. They allege that owing to lack of suitable sty accommodation at Somes Island 13 of the litter were killed, representing a serious loss in the strain and a monetary loss of over £50.
