THE MAGISTRACY.
MR BURGESS TO GO TO THAMES. (From Otjr Own Correspondent.) ALEXANDRA, March 9. As the sitting of the court, held to-day, Mr F. J. Burgess, S.M., intimated that he had just received a wire from the Minister informing him that it was proposed to transfer him to the Thames district, and asking whether it would be con- : venient for him to take charge of the new district early in April. Mr Burgese has been in charge of the Dunstan-Waka-tipu district for the past seven years, and should he decide to accept the transfer, which h« most likely will do, his loss will be greatly felt, and he is looked upon as the most capable warden we ever had in charge of the district. When the news was made known here, a murmur of regret went round the court, proving that the people would be aorrf to lose the services of such a,valuable warden and magistrate. Mr Bartholomew and Mr M'Kean, members of the local bar expressed their regret that the district would be losing Mr "Burgess. It may be mentioned that Mr Burgess 6erved as a cadet at the Thames.
