WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS.

By Peter Pan.

February 28. 1903. Dear Pasquin, — Carter the Magician, Fuller's Vaudeville Company, and the Royal Piclures have been the chief sources of divers-ion this week, but yet scarcely sufficient to keep •?ne's mind off the drought. By the way, talking about the drought reminds me that last week Carter's Astral Hand was persistent in stating that it would rain before the end of that week, and, sure enough, it rained on Saturday — for 10 minutes — and the veracity of the hand was maintained. Carter *na Miss Price have passed north, and our chief house of entertainment will be tenantless for a week. On March 12 it will reopen again as a temple of drama, for Edwin Geach is sending his dramatic company across to commence « three months' touT of the colony. "Lured to London." "A Modern Adventuress," "The Powei of the Cross," and "The Heart of a Hero" comprise the repertoire. Miss Harris Ireland and M!r Max Maxwell, late of Bland Holt's Company, are the leads, and are supported by Godfrey Cass, J. P. O'Neill. Jeffexaon Taite, M. Welch, Misses Buckley and - Fergus, and others. Albert Clark will represent ihe genial Geach, and it is pi-obable that Will Jameson, of Auckland, vnll pilot the Combination. Next -week we will have Clara Butt in two final concerts, Wirth's Circus, who will be loo&ted on the old tram sheds site, in Adelaide road, and the Royal Pictures and Fullers' v to cheer as. Quite 'a, busy time m etore. x What might, have been a serious accident, as the newspapers have it, occurred on Satur-cta-y afternoon at Carter's matinee. He waa doing his "Flyto" illusion, when suddenly the forge cage which is suspended some height ♦Dove the floor came crashing down on the stage. When the doors were opened the young lady assistant waa seen huddled in a corner. She struggled to her feet and bowed, but that has been her l^sfc appearance, for she has since been confined to her room with a very badly sprained ankle. jiacMfthon's Biograph Company did not go north last week, but "lested" here until yeaterday, when they set sail for Gisborne. Montgomery's Moving Pictures were at iW&nganui this week, and business boomed. Pa Wednesday night they ha 4 the Dharupion

sciiller himself as ac attraction, for Monty arranged to have the stakes paid over at tho Opera Ho\ise dtiring an interval in the show. | i Mr Schatz, representing the Pollards, was . heTe during the week, and left on Monday for Nelson and the West Coast. He reports big business in the small towns of this pro- j vince. The figures he quotes as returns for j some of the little towns makes one anxious to rush right out and buy a young opera, company and take it on tour m the Wei- | , lington province. I Now that the Opera House has been taken over by Mr J. C. Williamson, patrons axe expecting that alterations will be made to the buiTdmg which will add to their comfort. I understand that they will not be disappointed, for it is said that LUr Kamioottia, one of the "firm," leaves S>dney shortly for Wellington to consult with the New Zealand managers of the business. A. ' new plush curtain is to be bung and the stalls and circle seats re-upholstered.
