Replying to a communication frorrt Elder, ' Dempster, and Co.. of Liverpool,, through the West port Coal Company^ re*, deepening the harbour tto accommodate their ships, the secretary of the Harbour, Board writes :—" The railway and por* equipment are at present quite capable 1 of dealing with 25,000 tons of coal per week if that quantity is brought for shipment. The board is doing all it jreasonabljr, can to render the harbour and its equipment fully able to deal with much larger ships than are now trading here, also to deal with a vastly increased output."
