PICNIC.
The third annual picnic of the Middlemarch branch of the Taieri and Peninsula Company's creamery suppliers and shareholders was heM in a paddocks near the Gladbrook plantation, kindly lent for the occasion by Mr A. M'Kinnon. The Picnic Committee, consisting of Messrs "Win. Moyni- ' han, J. Kirkland, J. Tisdall, sen., J. Tisdall. [ jun., Jones, James, Pugh. Graham, Thcni- } son, Fisher, Gilbert, and M'Hardy, and Mesdames Thomson, James, Jones, M'Hardy, Spratt, and Mason, invited all and sundry, and are to be congratulated upon their efforts, resulting in one of the best attended and mcst successul gatherings that StrathTaieri has yet seen. The day and the weather were all that could be desired, und the presence- of the local brass band helped very materially to enliven the proceedings. Swings and merry-go-rounds for the children, with quoit throwing, driving nails, and | a baby show fcx the ladies, and a liberal I programme of races for old and young, with i handsome trophies for the winners, ell coni tributed t.o the enjoyment of those present. ( ' Thirty to 40 couples took part* in the dpnee in WilKains's Hall in the evening, nnislc being furnished by Miss Black, of Gimmerbur.ii, to the great satisfaction of all prefent.
It was stated at the City of London Court that Mr Mark Levy, a debtor, was ab.va.js well dressed. "Oh," said Mr Le\y, "I paid 5s for this overcoat, and I have worn it for five yeaua*'' I
