DEPUTATIONS AT WESTPORT.

WESTPORT, February 27.

The Minister of Lands this morning inspected the harbour works, and this aftei--noon visited the mining districts. In the evening he met a number of deputations, the principal one being in reference to the Westport-Reefton railway, the speedy construction of which the deputation strenuously urged. In reference to lands withdrawn from sale, members of the deputations said some of the lands so withdrawn gave no indication of ' being coal-bearing. The need for more and better roading to lands already taken up or suitable for settlement was also urged.

The Minister leaves for Wellington in the morning.
