WEST COAST NOTES.
(Feom Otjb Own Cobhespondent.) GREYMOUTH, February 23. The Hon. Mr M'Nab will return to Greymouth to-morrow morning after four days in the south. He has had a busy time of it between deputations, entertainments, and - travelling. Most of the subjects brought under his notjee were of & local nature. Mr M'Nab appears to be very much surprised at the quantity and quality of land in many places on the Coast, declaring that it ie superior to much, land mat - is eagerly snapped up in the North Island. To-morrow he will visit the -State mine, and will be interviewed there in regard j to street formation, in the Government township. He is to be entertained at lunch at Dunollie by the, Mayors of Greymouth and Brunner and the county chairman; and he will then be driven out to : [ Point Elizabeth to view the future' harbour of the Coast. I The Coast is looking forward to the visit of the Prime Minister and Mr Millar, and is preparing accordingly. Our new magistrate (Mr 'Turton) is earning- the good opinion of all who have had ! experience before him. He is getting: through an immense amount of work, and getting through it in an admirable I manner. He is clear and distinct in his decisions. One thousand Reefton names have been transferred from the Buller to the Grey electoral roll. For Westland seat Mr Se'ddon and Mr Michel are already canvassing, and for Grey the Hon. Mr Guinness is missing 1 no 1 opportunity of strengthening his, position. 1 Messrs Petrie and Jackeon are mentioned as likely to oppose him. | Co-operative stores are takingj hold here. At the State mine one is in exvtence, and subscribers are coming in freely for one at Greymouth. The prospects of the Brunner Collieries Company are excellent. It is said 'that the coal will command almost a monopoly for gas purposes. WESTPORT. February 2?.
