It is with deep tegret that toe writer has to announce the deatfi of Mr G. * ? Bowen, who, under the norn de idume of , Poene" was well and_ favourably known far many years to the refers of the sporting columns of tiue ionrtui. Me Bowen first became connected with the Otazo Witness many years ago, and hw weekly letter from*. Austral.* was read with 'great interest. During the boom days of Western Australia he accepted a position on one of the leading paper* there Twit oh -bis- return to Victoria once ■more" acted as our correspondent, a. .responsibiltv always filled with great credit <o himself and ±he paper he represented. He was one of the raciest writers of sporting notes, and in that respect stood alone. His column even in the deadest of tunes, when there was a dearth of. news, always contained something or other -which .interested his readers, -ana his letter -wall be greatly missed in the future. ' Mr Bowen was connected at different times with* some' of the leading ' Australian journals, and hh death, Jike "Augurs," removes another of tfee "old hrU ga-de," who did so much to elevate tbt* national Bport. Mr Bowen at the -time of his death was well on in jeans, mnd will lie greatly missad by a large circle at friends and acquaintances-
